On A High Note

On A High Note Vol I

Happy Monday Friends- I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and are excited for something new we are trying out. We’ve decided to start a series called On A High Note! It will be a light hearted, weekly round up that we’ll post each Monday. I saw this idea on The Golden Girl Blog and instantly loved it. Monday’s (and let’s be honest life) can be hard sometimes, so I’m all about brightening things up a bit.

EAT & DRINK

Enter Tatte Cafe. (tatte is pronounced like latte) I stumbled upon this cafe on Instagram and I thought it looked lovely. Kristin and I checked out their West End location over Memorial Day Weekend, and it was so great we went back again this weekend with family. I can’t say enough good things about it, lots of natural light if you are seated indoors, beautiful displays of yummy treats, large outdoor patio, wonderful lattes, and just overall a great vibe. Promise me you’ll check it out!

WATCH

This video will most likely move you tears- but Jane’s outlook on life is simply inspiring! She says: “You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore before you decide to be happy.” Also, her voice is I.N.C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E!

VISIT

FREE LITTLE ART GALLERY – This was another Instagram discovery that I am obsessed with! This tiny art gallery is modeled after the free little libraries you see, except it is filled with art. It follows the same principals- if you see something you like you can take it home, and if you have tiny art to contribute and there is room in the gallery you can add it. It really is such a fun idea. The Free Little Art Gallery is located on East Capitol between 3rd and 4th Streets. (roughly 313 East Capitol Street). The day we visited the gallery was fairly empty, but if you check them out on Instagram you can see the various types of art people have contributed. I’m thinking about going back to contribute some tiny photos or watercolor paintings myself. If you are in the D.C. area I highly recommend taking a peek and seeing what you discover.

READ

Our brother (Hey Austin!) was in town over the weekend and he brought the book Make Your Bed- Little Things That Can Change Your Life and Possibly the World by Retired U.S. Navy Admiral William H. McRaven. He finished it on his trip so he left it for us to read. I just started it last night, and I am almost halfway through. It’s a book about being intentional and disciplined in the small things in order to be prepared for the larger things you face in life. It’s a quick read, but full of quality content. Check it out (or if you are local, you can borrow it after we are finished! ) 🙂

That’s all I have for this first On A High Note- but I’m pumped to make this a weekly tradition. I love sharing great discoveries with friends!

xx Meghan
